Levi Stubbs (born Levi Stubbles) the lead vocalist of the Motown group The Four Tops, has died in
his sleep at the age of 72.
Levi has suffered from ill-health for several years - he was diagnosed with cancer in 1995 and later
suffered a stroke, which forced him to stop touring. He leaves only one surviving original member
(Abdul Fakir) of The Four Tops, who had sold more than 50 million records worldwide.
He was also known as an actor and famously provided the voice of the man-eating plant, Audrey II, in
the 1986 film The Little Shop of Horrors.
He leaves behind him his wife Clineice, whom he married in 1960 and five children and 11
grandchildren. He was also the cousin of soul singer Jackie Wilson.
He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and his millions of fans worldwide.

Not too many people can have a famous singer in the family. The song "Bernadette" was a big influence on my parents my sister was named after that song. Not only because we are related but that song had true meaning and feelings, your voice on that song was powerful, emotional and right in tune. The four tops will always live in my household and Levi you will always have a place in my heart.

Cnt belive my hero has gone. but his music will live forever in my heart you were the best. I am 48 years old so can remember motown from a very young age but there has always been one very special person Levi Stubbs. He rocked my world i saw the four tops in the 70s so glad i did. Somehow Levi's voice connected to my soul...In good times and bad his voice would lift me up. Still Water is my favourite track of all time...so much so that when I was pregnant with my son I would put the head phones on my 'bump' and play all the Four Top's songs, always followed by James Brown. Thank Mr Stubbs for the joy you have given me over the years and will continue to do so. May you rest in Peace. Now God has your soulfull voice to add to His Angel Choir. Annekin X

The world has lost one of the greatest voices ever.
The music of the Four Tops influenced and inspired me from 1964. I saw them live every time they visited the UK. The clarity and depth of Levi's voice never failed to bring shivers down my spine and still does to this day.
Levi's voice will live on forever in the music of the Four Tops and, in the modern world of unmemorable and largely untalented music, his voice will stand out as a diamond in the desert.
